Tips for a heavenly architecture weekend
Extra days off for extra architecture
No plans yet during the long Ascension weekend? Then you’ve come to the right place! We know how to fill it in with a lot of architecture. We have compiled a great program for you. You start your heavenly architecture weekend on Wednesday May 29, the day before Ascension Day, with a story about the old West of Rotterdam. After, you don’t go back home. Spend the night in an art object on Culture Campsite or sleep in a Rotterdam architect’s house.
Up before dawn
On Ascension Day you get up – as it should – before dawn. Get carried away by the wealth of The New Garden during the Sound Walk. After, you think deeply about how you would make the city at the group exhibition “The city, the city”.
On Friday you go on a Titans tour along the Rotterdam highlights De Rotterdam, a water taxi, Kubuswoning and the Markthal. Then you relax during a lovely walk through the green, hidden gardens. After you listen to Peter Barber “the architect who wants to get the neighbors singing,” said Oliver Wainwright, journalist at The Guardian. In the evening you will enjoy a delicious iftar meal in the penthouse on Las Palmas and spend the night in a Dakkas on top of the Thornico building.
On Saturday you will first visit Neuhaus, a real academy with classrooms in which artists, designers and scientists work together on a future that is about more than just people. Then you go on one (or more!) tours during the Rotterdamse Dakendagen: to the roofs around the Coolsingel, the roofs of the ‘old masters’, the Laurenskerk and the Witte Huis, the monumental roofs of the Van Nelle Factory and the HAKA building or to the roofs of the tallest Rotterdam buildings: the Delftse Poort, the WTC and the World Port Center.
On Sunday you close your heavenly architecture weekend #RAM19 with one of the highlights of the program: a visit to POST.
